Confidence is critical

America will never and not move again until we gain not only confidence in our economy, but ourselves. As with too many, I am withholding my cash until I have critical confidence that we have a future to look forward to.

In the mean time, one of my favorite ‘Buy Local’ bookstores has closed. The Brunswick Bookland. Albeit, not on my usual path of convenient consumption. Therefore, an unexpected closure. I am hurt by their absence. Local bookstores are a lifeblood of ideas that diverge from the national perspective to the local reality. We must not let our ideas become homogenized into noble barns and restricitve borders. For the future going forward, I intend to avoid homoginazation and support Maine.

But it is more than that. This week, I invested with 625 shares into a global financial institution. Local institutions remain robustly sound. But the largest institutions need our faith. One, so far, has mine. I expect further growth returns beyond market rates.

Confidence is the lack of fear. Confidence requires the vote of not only our voice, but our wallets, our future. Americans have this confidence. Consumer spending, over all remains constant. Now is not the time for unbridled growth per se, but stability. How can and will we all do better going forward?

80%. Retain 10% of your budget for deferred spending. Save 10% of your budget for your retirement. Imagine what could happen if our government decided and was determined to spend only 80% of generated revenues. 10% directed towards the deferred spending of rainy days. 10% of the budget directed towards reducing the principal of our collective national debt. We do not have to spend every cent of revenue. To do so allows us each to remain in the prison of debt, forever. Is this what you, we, truly want?

Confidence is critical. Confidence in our self first will generate confidence in our collective self-interest. This, We The People, must do.
